World War I Centenary - David Tennant Learns About His Great Grandfather's Experience Of World War I

Exactly one hundred years ago today war was declared and so many brave men and women paid the ultimate price in order that we should all enjoy the lives we lead today.
We can only imagine the horrors that they endured.  Today our thoughts go out to all of those who fought in World War I and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

David Tennant learnt of his Great Grandfather William's role as a stretcher bearer in World War I on the BBC documentary Who Do You Think You Are?

You can watch a clip of where David hears all about what William's experience of The Battle Of The Somme would have been like below:

A Lights Out project has been launched by the government and The Royal British Legion with the aim of creating a shared moment of remembrance and reflection across the UK. Tonight between 10pm and 11pm lights will go out across the largest cities and towns of the UK and will be lit by a single light or candle. People can also join in at their own home by lighting a candle in memory of the soldiers of World War I.

If you would like to donate to The Royal British Legion you can do so online here or text LIGHTS OUT to 70020.
