Broadchurch Features Among Top Ten Of Britain's Favourite Detectives

Broadchurch was voted into 6th place in Channel 5's rundown of Britain's Favourite Detectives.

Channel 5 viewers voted for their favourite 50 detectives during March this year and the results were unveiled on a marathon show last night. The show covered favourite TV detective series from the 1960s right up to the present day, including Kojak, Starsky And Hutch, The Bill, Lewis and Luther. The most popular show was Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

The award winning Broadchurch centred on the mismatched detective partnership of hardened, by-the-book DI Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and sensitive local officer DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman). David Tennant's performance as the seemingly impervious detective whose weaknesses and insecurities gradually come to the surface was especially praised.

The top 10 detectives were:

1. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson (Sherlock)
2. Detective Columbo (Columbo)
3. Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt (Life on Mars)
4. Hercule Poirot (Poirot)
5. Inspector Morse (Morse)
6. DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller (Broadchurch)
7. Jonathan Creek (Jonathan Creek)
8. DI Frost (A Touch of Frost)
9. Miss Marple (Marple)

10. DCI Barnaby (Midsomer Murders)

A second series of Broadchurch is due to go into production later this spring. Plot and casting details have yet to be announced by ITV or series creator Chris Chibnall.
