Will Mellor On Broadchurch 2: "Maybe It'll Be A Prequel"

Everyone is so in the dark about the storyline of the second series of Broadchurch that even the cast of series 1 are starting to speculate about it. Will Mellor, who played shady telephone engineer Steve Connolly, has been speaking to Digital Spy about his theory.

"We're all waiting to find out... nobody knows who's in it yet.," he said, "The writer's keeping his cards close to his chest as he did first time. I was with him the other night and I bought him a few drinks, so hopefully that'll work in my favour."

"I'd love to be in Broadchurch series two. The first was a massive success and the character's so different, a bit geeky and a bit strange, and it's nice for me to diversify a bit.

"I can't see [series two] being [about] another murder because it will be a bit too coincidental. All I know is it's going to be a surprise because the writer always catches you out.

"Maybe it'll be a prequel, it might go back to the old case that David Tennant's character [DI Alec Hardy] didn't finish. Whatever it'll be, it'll be fantastic."

Chris Chibnall confirmed on Wednesday that he had started work on the second series of the drama and had written the opening and closing scenes. Olivia Colman has confirmed that she has signed up to appear should DS Ellie Miller return.

On Wednesday night, Broadchurch won the Best Of British TV Programme or Series prize at the Freesat Awards
